Republicans Rebuke Ilhan Omar’s Remarks on Charlie Kirk

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University, prompting sharp criticism of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for her comments on the incident. While expressing condolences, Omar rejected claims that the political left bore responsibility for Kirk’s death, sparking backlash from conservatives who have called for her resignation. A resolution introduced by House Republicans condemned Omar’s statements, and a rally by conservative groups in Minneapolis demanded accountability.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) rebuked Omar’s comments, accusing her of misrepresenting Kirk and exacerbating division. He said, "She clearly has no idea what she’s talking about. She has not followed Charlie. She’s playing into this characterization of him that the left has been advancing." Johnson urged de-escalation, stating, "There is this angst out there, and we got to turn the rhetoric down. That is exactly the opposite of what we should be doing, what you just saw in that video right there. And I hope all members of Congress will join us."

President Donald Trump condemned the assassination, describing it as "Kirk's murder is a dark moment for the United States." He added, "The radical left is standing in the way of the country being unified."
